Council of the Lower Dniester Ramsar Site

The Administrative Council of the Lower Dniester Ramsar Site was launched on June 8, 2019, after a series of meetings and discussions with the local public authorities in the region. The Council is an advisory body empowered to manage the area and protect its biodiversity. The Council will work under the central environmental public authority and is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, Environment Protection Inspectorate, local public authorities (district and local councils), the business environment, and the associative sector.

At the Council’s first meeting, the list of members was approved (22 members) and the chairman was elected. Priority actions for the site management were identified and the Strategic Activity Plan for the period 2018-2019 elaborated. The composition of the Council was elected for a period of 2 years, based on rotation. The Council also endorsed the functioning regulations setting out its objectives and tasks. These include organizing and conducting any forms of activity in the area, preserving biodiversity, creating conditions for regulated tourism and recreation, and promoting the ecological education of the population.

The Launch of the Council and the organization of the meetings in 2019 is carried out in the frame of the project ” Ecosystem-based adaptation, climate-resilience measures and institutional development in the Lower Dniester” implemented by the Ecological Society BIOTICA and the EcoContact Public Association and financed by the Austrian Development Agency from the Austrian Development and Cooperation funds and co-financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
