About the area
The Lower Dniester National Park is a state-protected area of international importance in the Republic of Moldova. It was created in April 2022. Also it is recognised as an international zone Nr. 1316 under the Ramsar Convention on 20 August 2003. The territory of the area includes 4 villages from Causeni district and 9 villages from Ştefan-Voda rayon. The total area of the site is 60638 ha and includes 18 natural complexes, the largest being Copanca-Leuntea (2397 ha), Lunca Talmaza (1592 ha), Zaozernoe-Nucari (1542 ha), Cioburciu-Răscăeţi (1234 ha) and Olanesti – Crocmaz (1478 ha). Moreover, the Lower Dniester National Park is an important part of Moldova’s national natural and cultural heritage and has been designated thanks to the studies and descriptions made by the Ecological Society “BIOTICA”, PA EcoContact in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova.
The Lower Dniester is easily accessible throughout the year and the natural complexes have free access. Thus, only 95 km from Chisinau can be reached within 1 hour and 40 minutes. In terms of the number of plants and animals species, the area is the country’s richest site, accounting 83 species of fish, 288 bird species, 54 mammalian species, and 950 plant species. Particularly valuable are the old Nistru alluviums of different ages, especially the Blind Dniester- a monument of nature with a length of approx. 42 km, which are important for birds and other fauna of wetlands. Sturdy forests of poplar, which have hardly been preserved in Europe, keep many bat species protected. Ash meadow forests are a pan-European ecosystem and high grass meadows are very poor ecosystems in the region. Still here still have small, but valuable fragments of steppe. The initial diversity of natural conditions is linked both to the influence of the meandered river and to the heterogeneity of the territory. Besides the beautiful landscapes and monuments of nature, there are many archaeological and historical monuments, wineries and stops that can be interesting for tourists. The Lower Dniester National Park area includes all the necessary components for organizing tourist activities with a wide range of directions such as exotic and ecological tourism, agritourism and wine roads, balneary and sports tourism, summer recreation, etc.
