The Imperial Forest
The Imperial Forest - is located between the village of Olănești and the Crocmaz village, in the North West part of the locality, and was once the largest forest in the area with over 400 hectares, today reaching about 250 hectares. Founded by the Polish nobleman Bartasevici, the dendrological park occupies only 24 hectares. Over time, due to lack of care, the park became part of the forest. Evidence of the park's existence are the exotic species in the forest stand: chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.), ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba L.), American maple (Acer negundo L.), elderberry (Celtis occidentalis L.), oak leaf as of chestnut (Querqus castaneifolia CAMEY.,), yellow vinegar (Keoleuteria paniculata Laxm.), white mulberry (Morus alba L.) and others (P. Tarhon, 2013). The introduced species come from Europe, Asia, North America, etc. In the immediate aftermath of the war, young men from neighboring villages met in this forest and fought as a result of misunderstandings at play. During the Soviet period, it hosted a rest camp for children and teenagers. The park is protected by the Law on the protection of monuments no. 1530-XII of June 22, 1993.
Now the forest located on the slopes and watersheds, with natural stands, has affected structure and reproduction, but also valuable sectors of downy oak communities (Querscus robur) with seed regeneration (Pure downy oak oaks - 100%) with medium age - 37 years old. It is composed of semi-arid oak groves, forest plantations with a complex structure - (Quercus robur, Fraxinus excelsior, Ulmus, Robinia pseudacacia) and monodominant plantations of white acacia, Palas pine, walnut and spruce. At the moment, the forest is under the management of the Olănești forest district.
